I voted today. The line was about an hour long at my polling place. I’ve talked to friends around town who were in and out in 15 minutes or less. Like I pizza or something.

I think the reason for my hour-long wait was that they had the oldest woman in the village checking names. Holy canoli. She was nice as can be and I’m glad she was workin’ it, but really?!? DUDE. Sloooooowwww. Another guy was talking joint replacement with the gal working the machine that takes our ballots. I darn near shushed them so I could read the state propositions.

All in all, I’m glad I voted. If only so I could share my curmudgeonly thoughts on my voting place with you. How were things in your neck of the woods?

As a Libertarian, I am fiscally conservative. My take on the bail
out is that we need to let these companies fail. We need let the free
market correct itself. Allowing the government to take over the reigns
will only create bigger problems later. (I believe this translates to
many other issues as well, but those are other posts for other days.)

As I review the political blogs of other women, I’m finding few who
support the bail out–whether they are liberal or conservative.

Whether you think we need it or think we don’t, weigh in! I’ve done a link round-up of conservative women bloggers and their thoughts on the bail out at BlogHer.com today.

Update: Well, true to form, the liberals have started with the name-calling. So far I’ve been told I’m condescending, heartless, and Dickensian. All because I believe that government has no role in choosing my health care and voiced my opinion. The facts I brought up were largely ignored in favor of emotional arguments.

Now’s our chance ladies. Care to add your voice?

BlogHer has long held that they are a non-partisan organization but their members are not. Fair enough. What I’ve noticed, though, is that the Democrat/Liberal members of BlogHer are more likely to voice their opinions thus giving the impression that BlogHer is predominantly liberal.

To be fair, in the past few months American Princess and Backyard Conservative have made an important appearance and have tried to shine a light on the "other side" and encourage the rest of us conservative women to join the conversation. Of course, many times the discussion is taken over by liberals demanding that we show compassion for the masses and give our hard-earned money to the poor. If we don’t, we are ignorant of the facts and don’t understand the issues.

Conservative women, I urge you to join the conversations at BlogHer. I believe liberals assume they are the popular majority simply because they are making the most noise. I am tired of having every political discussion I join deteriorate into emotional bullying vs. fact.

Will you please join the conversations? Will you please make your thoughts known? Comment on current political articles, or write your own and post it to BlogHer and invite your readers to join you there.

My one piece of advice: Be polite, but be firm. Trust me when I tell you that I have seen many a comment forum turn from facts to name-calling in the blink of an eye. Don’t take the bait.

If you post at BlogHer, please let me know. I’d love to see your posts and your comments and offer my own.

I’m not sure what I’ll do come November.

You want to know what I’m upset about?

Apparently, I am registered as a Democrat instead of a Republican (even though I’m REALLY a Libertarian).

A Dem. O. CRAT.

WTF? When did that happen? Stupid college. I’m sure I registered as a Dem when I was all touchy-feely, save-the-earth crazy. Don’t bother with the hate mail.

Now that I’m all let-my-family-keep-what-it-earns, let-me-make-my-own-decisions-I’m-totally-capable I’m annoyed that I thought I changed my registration and didn’t.

I had to vote for that UFO-spotting Kucinich. You’re welcome.

Some are funny, some are interesting, some are helpful, some are not my cup of tea. This one, though, I have to share. It’s a table (technical writers unite!) giving a basic idea of what issues the eleventy million candidates in the Democratic and Republican camps basically support or don’t support. If you haven’t been doing your research, this may be a place for you start.

There is also a site that lets you decide how important issues are to you and then matches you up with the candidate that most closely resembles your ideal.
