Overheard at Grandma Jann’s

Grandma Jann is awesome. Not just because she picks up the kids from school every Friday, keeps them overnight every other week, and generally fills in whenever needed. She’s also completely awesome because she plays Monopoly with my kids so I do not have to. That game seriously caps my buzz, y’all.

Last weekend was all of the above: Jann picked up the kids, kept them overnight, and played Monopoly with them. I am told this conversation may have been the highlight:

Max: You must each pay me $50 for opera tickets!

Chilihead, Jr.: La! Laaaaaa Laaaaa! Wait. What kind of opera is it?

Max: Mexican.

Chilihead, Jr.: Laaaaa! LAAAAA! Chihuahua! Chihuahua! Chihuahua! LAAAAA!

(For those of you keeping track, this is my 1,000th post. Sorry it wasn’t more philosophical. I know that’s what you expect from me.)

My mom (Jan, coincidentally) is wonderful that way. Her specialty is tea parties. I have declared to the kids that “Mamas don’t do tea parties. That’s a Gran job.” I’m lame, I know.

One thousand?? Jiminy Crickets chilihead; you sure have a lot to say.
Ha! Monopoly is my son’s favorite and I can’t stand that game. It could go on forever and besides, he always wins.
I like games that have a definite ending. It’s over , pack it up, I won.

There’s a children’s book called Skippyjohn Jones about a siamese cat who day dreams that he’s a chihuahua. He has some very clever little ditties that he sings (My name is Skippitp Friskito, I fear not a single bandito…). Bet your daughter would get a kick out of them. She sounds like a great girl!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
