Carnival_buttonThis giveaway is now closed.

I love to read. I love to watch movies. If both of those happen to be Jane Austen stories, all the better. Today and tomorrow I am going to share with you my love of Jane Austen.

Today’s giveaway is the book Emma and the movie Emma (the one with Gweneth Paltrow–it’s the only one Borders had in stock. It’s good.). So you can read the book, then watch the movie. Or vice versa.

Wanna win it? Leave me a comment on this post. That’s
it! Of course, I’d love it if you wrote something besides "Pick me!" or
"I want this!" because I’d rather read about how you love Jane Austen and could spend all day watching her movies back-to-back or reading her books. But any comment counts.

The only thing I ask is that you don’t enter more than once because duplicate entries will mean that you don’t get any
entries. Just so you know and all. And no anonymous comments because,
hello? How can I contact you if you’re anonymous? Just sayin’.

  • This giveaway is open to US residents only because I’m nothing if not a total procrastinator and cheap to boot.
  • You don’t have to be a blogger to play along.
  • I’ll pick a winner on Friday and contact you that same day via e-mail. You have four days to respond. If I don’t hear from you by then, I’ll have to choose a new winner. Make sure you’re checking your spam folder.

Please note: This DVD is a plain ol’ DVD. Not Hi-Def. Not Blu-Ray. Just a plain ol’ DVD. The book is just a plain ol’ paperback book. Perfect to take in the car or to the pool this summer. The nice things about books are that they’re so portable.

I love to read, love Jane Austen and just happen to love Paltrow too. I will read the book, but the main reason I want to win it is to give to my Aunt Dolly, she is 82 years old, and wonderful. She reads almost all the time. She told me that the books she reads would be better if there wasn’t so much explicit sex in them. She just wants to love stories. I am sure she will love this book and we will both enjoy the movie. Thanks, D

I am partial to the Kate Beckinsale version of Emma, but I’ll gladly take this one for free. :)

4 Becky April 23, 2008 at 7:32 pm

I’ve seen Emma, but I have to admit, very sheepishly, that I’ve never read it. But I would like to! Here’s to winning and having the perfect chance to redeem myself! And hey, the movie is just more fun! :)

5 Lauren April 23, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Let’s see…Jane Austen + Gwyneth Paltrow = AMAZING (so does Shakespeare + Gwyneth…gotta love Shakespeare in Love!). This would really make my day!

6 Laurie April 23, 2008 at 8:27 pm

I have indeed spent all day (or several days) reading Jane Austen/watching A&E’s Pride and Prejudice.
I have the complete set of Jane Austen’s stories all in one book. It’s fine for reading at home, but a bit bulky for traveling.
I’d love to have a copy of the Emma book and movie!

7 Leah April 23, 2008 at 8:48 pm

I just watched the Jane Austin Book Club and it got me in the mood for some Jane! Sense and Sensibility (the book and movie)are my favorite, but I have never seen Emma, so maybe that will change!

8 Mrs. Mandy April 23, 2008 at 9:03 pm

The movie is right up my alley! If you pick me, then please know I will be upuntil 3am every night with my nose glued into the book until it’s done–My husband will call me a dork, but I will be as happy as can be! What a great getaway from being a mom at the end of a long day! :o D

30 Anne April 24, 2008 at 8:25 am

I haven’t read this Jane book yet, and I’d really like to!

31 Melissa April 24, 2008 at 8:46 am

I Loved this movie! I have 3 boys and don’t get the chance to sit and watch these type movies very often. I have never read the book, but I’m sure I would enjoy it. One of my friends who has girls has recommended JA to me and I would love to get started!

I have not seen the movie and I would LOVE it!!!

34 katklaw777 April 24, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Emma is my personal favorite of all Jane’s books. They did it justice with this movie and opened it up to a whole new generation. My daughter saw this movie and now wants to read and see more of her. How wonderful!!! thnx for a fine giveaway.

35 Crystal Bergman April 24, 2008 at 12:35 pm

I first watched Emma in college and loved it, I love how she tries to pair up those around her when love sneaks in and steals her heart. I love Jane Austen because she always makes the story end perfectly, even though her own life didn’t end with love. We have a girls night once a month with all the sister-in-laws and cousins and we always seem to pick a Jane Austen movie to watch. It would be an awesome addition to my selective collection!

36 Peculiar April 24, 2008 at 1:53 pm

I would really love to be entered into this giveaway!! My girls and I watch PBS and a few weeks ago, they were running a special on the Jane Austen stories or books made into made-for-TV movies (commercial-free). We loved them!! I knew about them, but my girls were discovering her for the first time and they couldn’t wait for the next movie! This is a great giveaway. Thanks

37 Richelle F April 24, 2008 at 3:07 pm

I would love these! Jane Austin is great!

38 holly April 24, 2008 at 3:27 pm

love jane Austen. I just finished watching the movies on PBS. Such great stories!

39 Susanne April 24, 2008 at 4:04 pm

I love to read too, so I’d love to give this book a try. And I heard that the movie was fabulous.

40 imbeingheldhostage April 24, 2008 at 4:05 pm

I just caught your disclaimer, “open to US residents only”. I’m military, US zip code (so I don’t cost more), but you have to fill out a customs form. If you’re not mailing to military, then *sorry* about entering the Toast 8, I didn’t notice whether or not you said that on that giveaway. :-)

41 Elizabeth (Mason and Terris Ramblin momma) April 24, 2008 at 4:09 pm

I’m baaaack! :-D I guess I have to get past all the giveaways to get to your blog posts!
You can surely count me in on this one as well!

42 Jeanne Winters April 24, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Emma is a wonderful story. I’ve not seen the new movie. Thank you!

43 muddy April 24, 2008 at 4:30 pm

Like in my other comments, my daughter recently was “turned onto” reading Jane Austen’s books. I know she would love to own this one as well. Neither of us have watched this version of the movie. (so that would be a plus as well) Thank you for offering these giveaways!

44 Tiffany Rosson April 24, 2008 at 4:34 pm

As a high school English teacher, I probably should have read at least SOME Jane Austen, but alas I have not. Maybe I can read the Cliffs Notes and watch the movie.
Thank you for doing this giveaway.

I’ve never seen the movie and read the book way back in high school. I’m due to see and read! ;)

46 Elizabeth April 24, 2008 at 4:46 pm

I absolutely adore Jane Austen!! I haven’t seen this particular movie, so I’d love to have it.

47 Kathy April 24, 2008 at 5:10 pm

My daughters are currently into Jane Austen, both are reading Pride and
Prejudice and watching the movie simultaneously. One has read Emma but they haven’t watched the movie. This would make a great surprise.

48 PrincessLadyBug April 24, 2008 at 6:25 pm

Ooooo, pick me! Pick me! Please, please, please! :)

49 Leah Heinen April 24, 2008 at 7:17 pm

My daughter became acquainted with Jane Austen’s works just recently, and is now determined to pattern her life after the characters. I love seeing her fall in love with such great literature, and would love to give her this package as a 16th birthday gift. Thanks!

50 Stacy ~ April 24, 2008 at 7:47 pm

I absolutely adored this movie, and can’t believe I don’t already own it. Gwyneth Paltrow is lovely here, and she was perfectly matched by Jeremy Northam. A wonderfully romantic film, definitely a keeper.
