My love affair with Guitar Hero is well documented. Unfortunately, we only have one guitar so it’s a solo gig and we all take turns being the girl who throws her panties on the stage while someone else rocks the song.
We’ve taught both Wild Thing and Max how to hold their lighters just so, so as not to set the playroom ablaze. We’ve also showed them the newer, safer cell phone wave.
As a family, we feel sure we can represent if ever called upon to open for Aerosmith. It is the perfect love affair, this addiction to Guitar Hero.
Now that love is threatened.
Last weekend I found the joy that is Rock Band. Oh, sweet Nirvana.
Our whole family can be involved in the band now. Max rocks the guitar while Wild Thing head bangs the beat on the drums. I belt out the tunes and Husband throws his panties on stage. It is truly a site to behold, dude. Tickets are on sale now, cash only.

Guitar Hero III entered our life this Christmas season. I can’t figure out how to play the guitar, but kids and hubby love it. Hubby is already lusting after Rock Band!
We have Guitar Hero 1, 2 & 3. Our boys bought Rock Band the day it came out. We need to get the bass so all 4 kids can jam. My oldest (18) got a real guitar for Christmas. He found out quickly that it is (surprise, surprise) harder than Guitar Hero. I think he thought he could pick it up and instantly be Eddie Van Halen. Anyone know a good guitar teacher?
We bought a wii for Christmas and were going to buy GH 3 and then we heard rumors that perhaps Rock Band would come out with a wii version. So we are holding out! That and hubby really didn’t like the songs on GH3 and wants GH80s which they don’t make for wii. It’s a sad, sad story.
Hubs and I purchased GHIII for our Christmas Present to each other. We had been waiting for it to come out for the Wii, and we LOVE IT!! I would love to play Rock Band, but it’s not out for us yet!
I have been playing the boys GH3 while they have been gone, someone’s gotta keep the old Gibson tuned. I’m swooning that you have the whole band!
I thought I was the only thirty something mama rocking it out. Rock On Sister! Rock On!
We got GH3 and GH80s for Christmas – with TWO guitars!!
Oh, good golly. If there is a game that involves throwing underwear, my family is all over it.
Absolutely hilarious post! My husband wants a Wii so bad! We may have to break down and get one…especially after reading this post!
OMG, what a frickin’ HILARIOUS post Mel. I can totally picture all that you describe. Well… I can’t picture the bit with Hubs and the underwear, thank goodness
but all the rest I can visualize.
T and E would make the perfect mosh pit groupies I tell you. Can we get a backstage pass?
I don’t have cash… it’s after Christmas for goodness sake! Will you take PayPal? If not that, how ’bout a bottle of wine?
Too funny, Chili. Too funny.
We got GH3 when the boys got a Wii for Christmas.
I’m trying to figure out ways they can get grounded from it so I have more time to play – they totally hog it!
My son is very much in love with Guitar Hero as well, versions II and III. We now have two guitars, so it is fun to play together, however, I must say I am more qualified as lighter holder or panty thrower since I just recently finally played Slow Ride on easy without failing. I am thinking when the kids go back to school it will be my chance to really rock!
So I’m not the only mom in love with Rock Band… excellent! My 18-year-old rocks the drums (after years as a percussionist in marching band, he should!), and the 14-year-old can play passably on the guitar. I can sing, which leaves my hubby throwing underwear too. What is it with hubbies and underwear? No one wants to see that…
If you think Rock Band is good times, get your hands on a Wii. I never thought I’d have a good time pretending to bowl, but I’ll be darned if it isn’t a complete blast.
