For those of you who are new to the Boo, please visit this site: Tricks and Treats and Hallowe’en History. (Scroll down to the bottom to find the bit about Boo. You’ll also find the poem that some people like to use.)
I was shopping at a boutique several weeks ago and came across a very adorable box for Halloween. It was perfect for Boo-ing. The price was $15. Now, I like a good Boo as much as the next gal, but I’m cheap too. Fifteen dollars is a little more than I like to do for an entire Boo box (treats and all), let alone just the box. So I looked it over, made some mental notes, and headed over to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s.
I bought several different sizes of paper mache boxes, black spray paint, Martha Stewart ribbon, and Martha Stewart Halloween stamps. The MS products are adorable and are sold at Michael’s. The ribbon and stamps may be a little pricey for some, but I splurged because I know I’ll use the stamps again and I just liked the ribbon. We all know how I love my Halloween. BTW, the MS ribbon is sticky on one side so it adheres to the boxes easily.
I simply put down a tarp in the backyard and spray painted the boxes (inside and out) black. After they were dry I stamped them with silver pigment dye. Then I put the ribbon around the top of the box. Very easy and very fun.
I filled my boxes with some fake black moss from the craft store, filled some cello bags with candy corn, truffles, dark chocolate kisses (Kisses of Death, I like to call them), and plastic vampire teeth. The key here is to remember you don’t have to go overboard. It’s the surprise of the Boo and the thoughtfulness that count.
If you want to skip the MS ribbon, you can make your own sticky ribbon. When I ran out of her ribbon, I found that a roll of scrapbooking tape worked just as well. The tape is doube-sided so it sticks to the ribbon and to the box. I happen to have a TON of Halloween ribbon so this is what I’ll be doing from now on.
I hope you’ll get into the Halloween spirit and Boo your friends and loved ones!

CUTE!!! Did you make those??
I love to boo!! In fact I am working on my Boo Buckets today. We are going to deliver tonight! The kids are so excited!!
I will post pics tomorrow of our buckets!
Everyone is so crafty! Love the boxes. Did you make them?
We do not…but those are adorable. I might have to do something along those lines for Thanksgiving…what would you call it? “Thanks”? I’ll have to think of something crafty and catchy. Love the idea!
What an awesome idea! I’ve never even heard of Boo-ing, but I think I might try passing it on.
We just passed out our Boo treats last night. Let me tell you keeping a two year old and and 4 year quiet while door bell ditching is hard!
Is it proper etiquette to leave the treats in a nice box/basket? We left our in a ziplock.
Adorable!
Martha Stewart better watch out!
I had never heard of this before until I was shopping at Michaels this weekend. They had signs up in the scrapbooking section for “boo-ing” someone (was called something else?). I thought their buckets were sort of cute but this sells me on the idea completely!
Thanks for the great tip!
Yes … we “BOO”. I was just thinking of writing a post about it.
The kids LOVE LOVE LOVE it and I have to admit that I enjoy it too.
SOOO cute!
LOVE IT!!!!! I’m picking up the kids and then hunting for boxes to recycle for a BOO (or two).
This would be cute at school….hmmm….
Too, too cute! I love this idea.
Now, what is sk*rt, and how does it help you? Do I need to be doing this, too? I’d love to know more, so email when you get a chance. Thanks!
Those are awesome! I thought I was looking at a pic from a catalog!
Last year was our first experience with BOO-ing, but it sure was fun!
So cute, what a clever gal you are! I may have to make a stop at Michael’s. I don’t actually Boo, but I may have to invent a reason for these!
Do I boo? What’s the boo? I’ve never heard of The Boo–I’m going to have to improve my education obviously. Really cute boxes!
