This is our last week of summer. Technically, it’s our last three days of summer. School begins on Thursday. I will be alone from 8:30am to 4:00pm because my children insist on riding the bus. I have offered to take and pick up every day, but they are having none of it. You see, if I take and pick up, that means I’m only alone from 8:45-3:25. Every minute counts. Even after I tried to bribe them by saying I could probably get Shannon’s kids to ride with us, it was no go.
I look back on our summer and I wonder, "Where on earth did it go?"
Well, there was Iowa. Where we had fun at the lake and lit sparklers.
The merry-go-round at my grandparents’ farm. I played on it as a girl.
Sunset on the lake at Auntie M’s house.
Then there’s my home town where my brother and his family visited. My word aren’t my nephews cute?
We raced at the small park.
We enjoyed birthday celebrations.
This kid loves him some chocolate cupcake.
There was Chicago and BlogHer ’07. Where we ate at Playboy Headquarters and didn’t even know it until we left. And me without my bunny ears.
This is where we stayed. Don’t you love how they are so "in" they have grass in planters NEXT TO the grass? I’m telling you, it was deep. And me without my waders.
The Magnificent Mile had these wonderful dresses throughout. I want to make this one for myself and wear it to the Christmas party this year.
Shannon and Chili on the Navy Pier
The Peeps. I love that the sepia gives it an old-timey feel.
The most decadent dessert I’ve ever seen or tasted. It was carrot cake deep fried and coated with powdered sugar. No, I did not eat it all.
Then there was the golf course in Michigan.
And this flower by the clubhouse.
Finally, the PGA. That’s my boy getting an autograph. I’ll have to tell you all about it sometime. Max really was phenomenal that day.
And so it ends, our summer of 2007. It went fast. We didn’t do everything we wanted to do. Now we’re out of time. I’m going to miss having them around all day.

Gosh, I’m getting all wistful reading your retrospective, and I didn’t even live it.
Farewell, summer. You have been joy.
It’s RIDICULOUS how quickly the time goes by – especially during the summer.
Glad to see you and your family made good use of this summer. You’ve made a lot of memories!
Our school starts Friday. But we homeschool. So instead of being home alone all day, I’ll be teaching most of the day. (sigh)
I’ll only say this once my Friend. It’s time to homeschool.
I had to re-read a few of your sentences. I am so used to moms sying they can’t wait for their kids to go back to school, and they call it the “freedom bus.” So I was genuinely perplexed (and pleased) by your statement that every minute counts. I had to read it again.
Our (home)school started today. We are on the public school schedule, so it was a short summer. But I am glad they are home with me, so I know where you are coming from. ~Leslie
As my kids get a little older (they are 9,7, and 3) it seems harder and harder to see them off to school in the fall. This was a tough summer for us for lots of reasons but having them home made it feel like we were on vacation.
It rained all of June and July. It feels like summer is just now starting and school starts in a few weeks. Actually, I’m okay with that.
The days go by too quickly. I’m with you there. School doesn’t start until after Labor Day here (state law), but we go until mid-June.
FUN blog!!!
thanks for sharing today.
Hmmm…free time = free babysitting.
That picture with the sparklers is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Love the walk down your memory lane. Next year, I want to be in one of your memories too.
