I talk a big game. A really big game. I mean, according to me, at any given time I’m so cool polar bears call me for advice. I believed the hype, too. That is, until I got that iPod nano thingy.
As I looked at the CDs we own, the music I downloaded, and the music I’ve been listening to, I see that I am actually only cool if you are stuck in 1992.
My playlist (and there are literally hundreds more where these came from):
- Dancing Queen
by Abba (from the Muriel’s Wedding
soundtrack)
- One Week
by BNL
- Before You Accuse Me
by Eric Clapton (the MTV Unplugged version)
- Always Something There to Remind Me
by Naked Eyes
- In Your Eyes and Don’t Give Up by Peter Gabriel
- Tainted Love
by Soft Cell
- Semi-Charmed Life
by Third Eye Blind
- Lots
of
U2
I do have a few newer songs, but they aren’t the top 10 or anything. They’re mostly last year’s hits. However, this list is every contemporary "hit" I own.
- Black Horse and the Cherry Tree
by KT Tunstall
- Into the Ocean
by Blue October
- Girlfriend
(clean version) by Avril Lavigne
- Flathead
by the Fratellis
- Suddenly I See
by KT Tunstall
- Cobrastyle
by Teddybears
What does it say about me that I just downloaded the B-52s album from 1989? And looked up Carmen
(the opera), but didn’t actually buy it? Then I downloaded Learn to Speak Spanish podcasts.
I know. Sigh. It says I’m 36, have two kids, and am a legend in my own mind. Oh! AND THAT I ROCK! (¬°Oscilo! for you Spanish-speakers.)

i don’t see a problem with any of those songs. my playlists range from the beatles and queen to fall out boy and stroke 8. who cares, as long as you’re happy.
oops, stroke 9 – it’s hard to type onehanded while nursing…
At least you don’t have an entire play list devoted to Barry Manilow.
What does it say about me that I loved your list? Except the second part; I didn’t recognize any of those. And don’t tell me I’m not cool or I might feel I’ve got to BOMP BOMP run away, I’ve got to…
Well, at least that’ll get the Erasure song out of my head. I’ve been singing it ever since I visited Pezmama’s blog last night. “I tried to deescover…”
Crap.
Thanks for killing me with what we call; “song of the day” around here. Now I have ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME stuck in my head. OOOOH, I need to go spread it.
Okay, on your “new” list, the only name I recognized was Avril and I don’t know ONE of her songs. Green Day was the last new band I remember and their music hurts my head now. Silence. Now THAT’S a beautiful thing

I’ve had Girlfriend in my head all morning!
“She’s like, so whatever…”
Seriously, how can you not like that lyric?
Ok, now that I know your personal tastes…I will be on the lookout for things you might like (and are not too vile that your kiddos can’t listen too)!
