Goslyn was asking which Christmas CDs we love because she doesn’t have any. This got me thinking and I decided to do a whole post on this topic. Then I thought some more and decided I’d make it my WFMW post. So here it is, my WFMW: Christmas CDs I love.
This list is not my complete collection of Christmas CDs, but rather my favorite ones (in alphabetical order so as not to show too much favoritism). I’ll link them to Amazon.com so you can listen.
- Barenaked Ladies: Barenaked for the Holidays (even has a Hanukkah song or two! Elf’s Lament is too funny.)
- Brian Setzer: Boogie Woogie Christmas (Remember Brian Setzer? Stray Cats? Yes. This is the first CD I pull out every year.)
- Brian Setzer: Dig That Crazy Christmas (not as good as the other Setzer one)
- Harry Connick, Jr.: When My Heart Finds Christmas (I’ve had this one for more than 10 years and I never get tired of it.)
- Harry Connick, Jr.: Harry for the Holidays (this one is almost too jazzy for me)
- Time-Life Treasury of Christmas (Vols 1 & 2) (all the traditional songs you remember)
- Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Christmas Eve and Other
Stories (If you’ve never heard TSO, you have to try it!) - Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Christmas Attic
- Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve (my favorite song on this one is Wizard in Winter)
- Raffi: Raffi’s Christmas Album (for your children)
Now I have a favor to ask of you. For years my mom has been looking for a Christmas album with lots of bold brass. It should not be mellow in any way. Do any of you have such an album or know of one?

Bing–White Christmas Album. A Must Have.
Oh, those are some of my favorites! And, a few I haven’t heard but I will definitely put them on my list! Thank you!!
I went to a Harry Connick Jr. concert when I was in college. I have never heard one of his Christmas albums though. I may just have to give it a try!
I’ve been thinking it is time for some new Christmas CDs. Thanks for the ideas.
I love TSO. It is one of my first Christmas CDs to play.
I just can’t stop giggling about the Barenaked Ladies. It’s the 6th grader in me.
Ha! I love the Barenaked Ladies recommendation for a Christmas CD.
Brian Setzer’s new stuff is alot of fun!
I second “White Christmas” and we also have acoustic Christmas CD’s that we purchased from the dollar store that we adore!
Blessings,
Tracy
Chili, try some Canadian Brass for your mom. They are a brass quintet playing classical and contemporary music, sometimes very serious and sometimes quite humorous. They have several Christmas albums! http://www.canbrass.com
Although Harry is one of my favorite singers, I didn’t like his When My Heart Finds Christmas album. It seemed too forced compared to his more sultry/romantic/jazz albums. And the BNL are one of my favorite groups.
Gah! I can’t believe that you made no mention of the Muppet’s Christmas album with John Denver… That’s the first one that gets played at our house.
I am with Shalee on the first Harry Connick Jr. Christmas album. I prefer his second offering.
You may like MercyMe’s Christmas Sessions; some great takes on songs and carols there.
Love TransSiberian Orchestra! Try Mannheim Steamroller too! You’ve got some great CDs for Christmas! All time favorite at our house is the Time-Life Treasury.
Thanks for the recommendations. I love TSO, too!
My CD recommendation is Louis Armstrong And Friends (use that as the search on Amazon.com and you’ll find it right away). It’s my favorite Christmas Jazz CD.
These sound great, thanks for sharing! =)
You forgot the Blue Hawaiians “Christmas on the Big Island.” Their version of Little Drummer Boy/We 3 Kings is awesome. Great combo of jazz/pseudo-lounge.
How about Manhiem Steamroller for your Mom? Some of it is mellow but most of it is really rocking. It’s the only Christmas albums I own.
I’ve been taking some flack for it, but I like Kenny G’s “Miracles”…I have a friend who says the Carpenter’s Christmas album is the best…yes, the Carpenter’s from the 70s (I need to listen before I buy THAT one!).
