Oh YEAH, Baby! DVR!

After months of begging Husband to call and request DVR from the cable company, he I finally took matters into my own hands and did it! In my head, maybe. In actuality, we decided to get the bundle from the cable company (phone, internet, cable) and we got the DVR too. BUT! Husband surprised me and got the extra cable channels!

Before yesterday, I didn’t watch a lot of TV. All the shows I watch are on CBS or ABC–which you don’t even need cable for. Now? Now I am up until all hours because I have Turner Movie Classics, Sci-Fi (which! has! Tales from the Dark Side and Twilight Zone! Heaven, I tell you!), and Discover channels out the wazoo!

And did I mention I have DVR? I’ve scheduled every single one of my shows to be DVRd and then some others for the kids. I can have every epsiode of The Magic School Bus! Every episode of Flight 29 (the kid version of Lost)! Last night I found a 2-hour show on Discovery Kids on China! Wild Thing LOVES China. I DVRd it. Now we have it to watch whenever! And, apparently, DVR comes with an abundance of exclamation points!

I’m a horder of high order. I’ve been getting better, but I hate to throw things out. I sense that I may be hording movies and long-lost TV shows now. Just add it to my list o’ neuroses.

I too love my DVR! It’s great because we are never home or available at the right time EVERY week to catch some shows (uh, flight 29? YEAH!) and also because I’m mean and make my kids go to bed early. Plus? I work during the mornings so I DVR the new Rachel Ray and I watch it late at night… LOVE DVR!

The bad news is that usually the DVR only holds so much TV :-) So you have to watch the hoarding! I’ve found that 5 episdoes of my kids favorite shows seem to do the trick, so I keep the latest 5 of about 4 different shows. Then we also invested in a DVD recorder so I can burn off the movies and specials we’ve recorded to free up space. The DVR is a beautiful thing!

I can’t tell, did my comment get saved or not? :)

Okay, that’s odd. I typed a comment, it asked me to type in a verification, and then it didn’t show the comment. So, I typed another little comment and that one showed up, with no verification necessary. :)
Okay, here was my original comment:
I have Tivo and I have a great time “recording” shows that I want to watch but can’t at the time that they air (Gilmore Girls for example). It is addictive when you can do things like this, isn’t it? :)
Thanks for your comment on my “Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style” recipe exchange post. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the many, many recipes that people have submitted! :)

Okay, I’ve been reading so much about this stuff – all of it. And we need a HUGE upgrade in all-things-electronic. Can you please tell me what all was bundled and how much you saved by bundling them? Also, why would a person get DVR instead of TiVo (this is not said in jest – I really don’t have enough knowledge about any of this.)
We live in the boonies and I REALLY don’t want to start paying for a dish, but with winter coming…
Well I’m just not sure we’ll survive with our current reception;) We pay way too much for a bundled two-line telephone setup with multiple gadgets and internet. If it could all be on one bill with the TV, it might make more sense.
Enjoy!

It is not overstating when I tell you that the DVR will be one of the greatest things that has ever happened to you.

I think it’s great you’re moving into the 21st century.

Tivo and DVR rock. Due to a series of events involving PBR (that would be Professional Bull Riding for you non hick people) and Dish network, we switched to Direct TV just 3 weeks after getting the Dish DVR. Now we have Tivo with Direct. The Dish DVR was FAR superior to Direct’s Tivo. But alas, they weren’t carrying the bull riding so it was a deal breaker for DH.
A DVD recorder is the next step. I like being able to move the shows off tivo and onto DVD’s. I think it’s paid for itself already. I have a huge Thomas, Bob, and Little Einsteins collection.

DVR is my newest favorite tech toy! Especially with all the new fall shows…I’ve been taping all the premieres and then deciding what I want to continue taping moving forward. It’s great!

On Mine, Tv shows I recorded is August disappeared as we moved into October. Mine is with the TW cable co – along with the phone and High Speed Interent bundle. So don’t wait too long to watch. I missed out on The Blue Collar Comedy Tour I recorded and did not watch and then it disappeared.
But we love our DVR.

You’d better set that puppy well in advance for the end of October. I am not watching shows just to be with y’all! (I gladly, however, will sit and drink wine and discuss books to your hearts content… Oh and laugh… a lot… and eat ice cream.)

YAY! I’ve been bugging my husband about the same thing, since we have two TV’s and sometimes I have TWO shows I want to watch on at the same time (Amazing Race and Extreme Makeover Home Edition) and he is watching football!!! We can only tape what is ON the one TV because of the satellite. I’m hoping hoping hoping he calls about a DVR, I’m going to tell him Chilihead said it was a good thing! :-)

Some days DVR is the only reason I have to live, I swear.
Well, that and the new MEGA peanut M&M’s, but I won’t go all trivial on you or anything… :D

I finally got DVR a few weeks ago, and it is just awesome! I totally know why you need all the exclamation points! I don’t think I have watched live TV since the DVR was installed!
